Arsenal star Thomas Partey is included in Ghana’s reserve squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite injury.
The midfielder has been sidelined for more than a month with a hamstring injury, but has been working hard in the gym to recover.
Although he will be out for the rest of the year, he is expected to be fit early next year, which has led to him being included in the provisional squad.
Ultimately, his availability will determine whether he will be included in the final 27-man squad that will face Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde in the group stage.
Partey is a key player in Ghana’s bid to win his AFCON title, which he last achieved in 1982.
Since his debut in 2016, he has grown into a key player for the national team and has made great contributions.
Unfortunately, due to injury he missed some of the team’s most important matches.
Partey played a total of 45 games and scored 12 goals for Ghana, playing primarily as a defensive midfielder.
Ghana’s AFCON group stage games begin with a match against Cape Verde on January 14, 2024, followed by matches against Egypt (January 18) and Mozambique (January 22).
