Following the dismissal of British coach Chris Hughton after the Black Stars’ group-stage exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana is on the hunt for a new head coach.

It appears the Ghanaian Football Federation has shown a keen interest in Comorian coach Amir Abdou, who led Mauritania during the tournament in Ivory Coast.

Just like in 2022 in Cameroon with the Coelacanths, Amir Abdou once again achieved a remarkable feat at the Africa Cup of Nations by guiding Mauritania to the round of 16, notably defeating Djamel Belmadi’s Algeria in their final group match. Algeria, like in the previous tournament, was eliminated in the first round.

This commendable journey has sparked interest from several African nations, including Ghana. According to Ghanasoccernet, Ghana has extended an incredible offer of $45,000 per month in salary to Amir Abdou to take over as the next head coach of the Black Stars.

With his contract with Mauritania ending in early March, the 51-year-old coach, who has yet to respond to Ghana’s offer, is expected to discuss his future with the Mauritanian Football Federation in the coming days.

Tempted by the prospect of a new challenge, especially at the helm of a more prominent nation than his last two coaching stints, Amir Abdou could potentially become the next coach for players like Mohammed Kudus, André Ayew, and others in the national team. This is a development to watch closely.
