Côte d’Ivoire is considered by observers to have hosted the most beautiful Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in history, culminating in a memorable victory on home soil last February.

Bah Oury, the Prime Minister of Guinea, made an important announcement regarding the CAN after the last tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire. Despite having the hosting rights for the 2025 edition revoked by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in favor of Morocco, Guinea has not abandoned its ambition to host the competition for the first time in its history. Moreover, the West African country aims to surpass its neighbor.

To host a more beautiful CAN than Côte d’Ivoire

“I believe that in the coming years, we have the ambition to organize the Africa Cup of Nations. And this Africa Cup of Nations that Guinea will host, the objective is to make it more beautiful than what Côte d’Ivoire has organized. Because we should not fall short of what this brotherly and neighboring country has achieved,” stated the Prime Minister.

Recognizing the magnitude of the task, the leader emphasized the involvement of the entire Guinean people. “Beyond medals, beyond the qualification of athletes, the entire social body must mobilize to be able to carry out a major collective project, where everything matters. Even the ordinary citizen in the street has a role to play. So, we must prepare for that so that when the time comes, our country shines and honors all Guineans wherever they are in the world,” he continued.

Prime Minister Bah Oury expressed great confidence during a meeting today with key figures in Guinean sports. He urged the main stakeholders to draw lessons from the last setback and to focus on planning rather than last-minute rush. “What activities do you think we could organize and in which activities could our country participate in the coming year? From there, we can estimate the needs accordingly. But if we wait until the last moment, it goes without saying that it will not be possible to meet needs, which are sometimes relatively significant in terms of cost and numbers. We must anticipate to govern well; we must also demonstrate transparency and rigor,” he warned. Just as a reminder, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya will host the 2027 edition, and the next vacant edition is in 2029.
