Dortmund: Haller replaced by another African?

Borussia Dortmund is reportedly considering parting ways with Ivorian forward Sébastien Haller. To replace him, BVB might turn to an African goal-scoring sensation.

Sébastien Haller’s stint at Dortmund could be nearing its end. Signed two years ago with hopes of filling the prolific Erling Haaland’s shoes, who departed for Manchester City, the Ivory Coast forward (25 caps, 10 goals) has struggled to showcase his full potential.

Blame it on an unfortunate bout of testicular cancer upon his arrival from Ajax and multiple injuries this season, including a persistent ankle problem that sidelined him for almost a year (over 280 days), allowing his competitor Niclas Füllkrug to clearly seize the spotlight.

The Ruhr club is reportedly considering parting ways with the recent African champion, tied to the club until June 2026, as reported by L’Equipe. Dortmund’s primary target is said to be Randal Kolo Muani from PSG. However, neither the Parisian club nor the player are keen on a departure just one year after the Frenchman’s arrival. Hence, Serhou Guirassy emerges as Dortmund’s backup plan, according to the sports daily.

The profile of the Guinean striker (16 caps, 3 goals) aligns with the voracious goal-scoring striker sought by the Bundesliga’s fifth-placed team. With 26 goals (28 in all competitions), the former Rennes player has been instrumental in Stuttgart’s third-place finish in the league, securing a Champions League spot for them for the first time since 2008-2009.

Under contract until June 2026, the Arles native has a release clause hovering around €18 million. If BVB were to activate this clause, Guirassy would take another step forward in his career by joining the Signal Iduna Park. Stay tuned for more updates…
