Since the victory of Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON, Emerse Faé’s name has been on everyone’s lips. The Ivorian technician has also been making numerous media appearances after being confirmed as the new coach of the Elephants. However, a renowned journalist addressed questions to the Ivorian hero and took the opportunity to offer him advice.
Emerse Faé achieved something unique in Ivory Coast. When he took interim charge during the competition, nobody placed any bets on him, but the Ivorian technician managed to turn the tables and guided the Elephants to victory in the final of the 2023 AFCON against Nigeria.
Naturally, after this rare performance, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) decided to recognize the man’s merits. Through an event with a partner of the institution, Idriss Diallo, President of the FIF, officially announced that Emerse Faé was the new coach of the Ivory Coast Elephants. Very quickly, controversy erupted in the country regarding the salary that the institution would offer Faé. Interviewed on Canal + Sport Afrique, the interested party denied this and explained that the delay in signing his contract was due to his difficulty in assembling his technical staff. But several weeks after this statement, Emerse Faé still has not signed a contract with the FIF and is starting his work with two friendly matches against Benin and Uruguay.
Contract still not signed, Rash N’Guessan questions Emerse Faé
Having agreed to continue working with the Elephants after the victory in the 2023 AFCON, Emerse Faé, who was promised a contract, has still not signed the deal with the FIF. This situation worries Rash N’Guessan, an Ivorian sports journalist, who questioned the coach live during a broadcast on his Facebook page. “Our champion, the revelation of a coach at the level of the national team, jumps from studio to studio, between TV and radio shows. He’s truly a star now. He’s partying, he has the right to. But it’s been over a month that this guy roams without a real employment label. And when you mention the problem, they tell you he was presented at a ceremony with a partner as if this framework was legal or appropriate (…),” he declared at first before giving him a phone call.
“Where are we with this contract situation? You still haven’t signed?” he asked, before giving him advice: “I feel like you’re playing with fire. We’re in a situation where wolves eat each other. But you grew up in the midst of professionalism, and you know the industry and labor law. It’s been over a month since you were appointed. If tomorrow things go sour, the public won’t forgive you. No Westerner would do what you’re doing: working without having the right paperwork in hand. Demand your contract, then you’ll be in legality, in labor law. Otherwise, in this game of hide and seek, you’ll be eaten up by the employer,” he added.
