During an interview with Onze Mondial, Emerse Faé revealed how African countries are set to revolutionize the world of football, attributing this shift to local coaches.

The best coach of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) first explained why African leaders previously favored European coaches.

“In the past, what was important for African leaders was to hire European coaches. They often chose the French, as there are many Francophone countries. These leaders were therefore reassured,” he stated.

Faé noted that over the years, a change has occurred, with African leaders increasingly placing their trust in local coaches.

“These foreign coaches perhaps had more tactical knowledge. But in recent years, since training has become universal, we prepare coaches in Africa in the same way as in Europe. That’s why there is more trust in African coaches,” he continued. Finally, Faé expressed confidence that this trend will continue, and African countries will shine in global competitions. He cited Morocco’s impressive performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as an example.

“With time, the trend will intensify. Change doesn’t happen overnight. It comes gradually. In the coming years, more African countries, like Morocco in 2022, will make significant progress in major competitions. From there, African coaches will be viewed differently,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that Emerse Faé made headlines during CAN 2023. Stepping in as interim for Jean-Louis Gasset, he proved his worth by revitalizing the Ivorian team.

At the end of the competition, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) decided to make him the official coach. As he did during CAN 2023, the Ivorian coach hopes to achieve the same feat at CAN 2025. More on this will follow.
