Wilfried Zaha Reflects on Galatasaray Team’s Performance in Super Lig Title Race
Since joining Galatasaray last summer, Ivorian forward Wilfried Zaha has endeavored to quickly integrate into the team and establish himself as one of its key components, despite facing tactical challenges. After my injury and return, I started playing here. My performance in England is the result of 10 years of work. It’s not realistic to expect me to replicate that performance in my first year at Galatasaray. It’s something that takes time,” he explained.
Despite the challenges faced, Wilfried Zaha remains confident in Galatasaray’s ability to clinch the Süper Lig title. Currently leading the championship with just a two-point advantage over their rival Fenerbahçe, every match becomes crucial in the title race. For Wilfried Zaha, Galatasaray is currently the best Turkish club, and he believes the team can maintain its momentum to be crowned champions at the end of the season.
“I think we are the best team in Turkey. If we continue like this, I think we will be champions at the end of the season,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of unity and teamwork in this quest for the title. “Training camp brings players closer. You put in extra hours and work together. The people I can call my closest friends are Tanguy, Ziyech, Sergio…” he added, highlighting the camaraderie within the team.
Despite his preference for a position on the left wing, Wilfried Zaha has adapted to the team’s tactical needs by accepting to play in different positions, demonstrating his commitment to the collective. “Our coach knew that my preferred position was the left wing, but I played in different positions out of necessity,” he explained, emphasizing his flexibility and dedication to the team. However, Zaha’s future with Galatasaray remains uncertain. With 10 goals and 4 assists this season, he has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs eager to see him return to English football. According to the latest rumors, West Ham, Aston Villa, Fulham, Everton, and Wolverhampton are interested in the services of the former Crystal Palace winger, with discussions appearing to be most advanced with West Ham.
Nevertheless, despite a promising start to the season under Okan Buruk’s guidance, which saw him deployed on the left wing, Zaha has seen his starting status diminish in favor of Kerem Aktürkoğlu due to perceived inconsistent performances. The Ivorian forward thus holds his future in his hands. With strong performances towards the end of the season, he could be in a strong position to negotiate his future with much more leverage.
