During the 62nd Ordinary General Assembly of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), Idriss Diallo presented an assessment that undermines Didier Drogba.
During the AFCON 2023, several supporters called for Idriss Diallo’s resignation in favor of Didier Drogba. Even after winning the AFCON 2023, some still maintained their position regarding the current president of the FIF.
However, in light of the satisfactory assessment he presented, the chances of Didier Drogba taking over the leadership of the organization in the next elections are slim.
Moreover, the former Chelsea striker was not favored in the 2022 election. He was eliminated in the first round against Idriss Diallo and Sory Diabaté.
“I am always a little uncomfortable evaluating myself. Because if I tell you that I won the AFCON, that’s the reality. So I am very happy.
We have organized all the competitions, which is a satisfaction. We managed to establish a minimum wage in the various categories with my executive committee. We increased club subsidies in accordance with our commitments. I think the assessment is satisfactory.
Especially the commitments we made before being elected have all been respected. The only one we did not fulfill was a sporting commitment.
We wanted to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics and unfortunately, we did not succeed in that. Otherwise, everything else has been accomplished. So we can say that the assessment is satisfactory,” said Idriss Diallo during the assembly.
Idriss Diallo has already served 2 years of his 4-year term. His reelection will also depend on the next 2 years, during which Ivory Coast will face 2 important challenges: the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 AFCON.
