The Evan Ndicka incident continues to attract particular attention in Italy. Collapsed on the field, clutching his chest during the match against Udinese, the Ivorian defender received immediate attention. Currently hospitalized for further care, he is improving. However, concerns persist, notably from Matteo Bassetti.

Matteo Bassetti criticized politicians who mentioned vaccines following Evan Ndicka’s illness during the Udinese-Roma match. The collapse of AS Roma footballer Evan Ndicka during the match against Udinese has raised new suspicions regarding vaccines.

Controversy surrounding Evan Ndicka’s collapse

Matteo Bassetti, Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the San Martino Polyclinic in Genoa, intervened publicly to clarify and refute these rumors. On the social network ‘X’, Matteo Bassetti, referring to Evan Ndicka’s collapse during the Udinese vs. AS Roma match, wrote: “Some Italian politicians, without any scientific expertise and – especially without knowing the medical reports – are interested in Evan Ndicka’s case, citing their usual suspicions about vaccines.” “I remind them that similar events have always occurred in Italian football, from Manfredonia to Morosini, passing through Curi and Astori, to name just a few. They do not realize the harm they are causing by denigrating vaccines and indirectly to the citizens they should protect and represent,” he wrote. In another message, the Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the San Martino Polyclinic in Genoa quoted a message from Lucio Malan, President of the Fratelli d’Italia Group in the Senate.

Malan had written: “The dramatic images of Evan Ndicka’s collapse. I wish him a rapid and complete recovery. These episodes are too frequent, and the numerical dimensions and causes must be clarified.” Matteo Bassetti wasted no time in responding. “What are your technical-scientific skills to use such tones and express this severity?” he asked. Evan Ndicka collapsed on the field during Udinese-Roma, clutching his chest.

Evan Ndicka is much better now

Initially, it was thought to be a heart attack, but subsequent examinations at the hospital ruled out any cardiac issues: according to ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport,’ he may have experienced lung compression, with a possible pneumothorax. ‘ANSA’ reports that Evan Ndicka, hospitalized at the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Udine, spent the night “peacefully” and the situation is “currently calm.” The Health Authority of the Central University of Friuli announced that there is no official medical bulletin on Evan Ndicka’s health status. Roma will provide an update later, as they posted the following message on X on Sunday evening: “The team visited Ndicka at the hospital. Evan Ndicka is feeling better and in good spirits. He will remain under observation for tests at the hospital. Go Evan!” Coach Daniele De Rossi and captain Lorenzo Pellegrini visited Ndicka at the hospital to express their support.

This empathetic gesture demonstrated solidarity and team spirit within the group. De Rossi then informed the rest of the team about Ndicka’s health condition, further strengthening the already strong bonds within Roma. Subsequently, the club confirmed that all team members had visited Ndicka at the hospital to show their collective support.
