Aged 36, Max-Alain Gradel surprised everyone with the announcement of his signing with Sakaryaspor. The former Ivorian international recently retired from international duty with the Elephants, but is giving himself one last chance at club level.
Last week, Max Gradel signed a two-year contract with Sakaryaspor in the second division of the Turkish league. Speaking to 225foot, the two-time African champion explained his reasons for the move:
“The club narrowly missed promotion to the top division last season, finishing 3rd in the playoffs. They contacted me saying they needed my help to achieve promotion to the first division. I accepted the project, which represents a new challenge for me. My goal will be to assist the club in reaching its objectives.”
It’s worth noting that Max Gradel was out of contract with Gaziantep SK. Valued at €750,000 on Transfermarkt, Gradel was earning €850,000 per year at Gaziantep, equivalent to 552,500,000 CFA francs.
