The Spanish team Real Madrid will be training young players in Côte d’Ivoire, as reported on July 2, 2024, by the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP).
This initiative is a development training program for young players (boys and girls) aged 9 to 17 years old.
It will take place from August 26 to 31, 2024, in Yamoussoukro, as announced by the partnership manager of the NGO Diambars, Pierre Mbas, representing the Real Madrid Foundation in Africa.
Mr. Mbas emphasized that this training program is an initiative of the Real Madrid Foundation in collaboration with Akwandies, SAF, and the home appliances marketing company Smart Technologie.
Furthermore, the foundation representative made a clarification.
“This is a development training, not a scouting event. I emphasize this,” he said, arguing that the goal is to educate youth through football practice. “For us, education is what matters. The idea is not to close the training by saying we will select the best young talents to come and play football.
Football is first and foremost a game. We must remind children to have fun. We have decided that it should be a sport accessible to everyone.
However, we do aim, among the hundred participants, to identify two or three youths and support them for a second development training session at Real Madrid’s facility to improve their skills, not necessarily for scouting purposes.”
It is worth noting that the pilot phase of these training programs was conducted in Cameroon.
