In Côte d’Ivoire, former international footballer Salomon Kalou opened up in an interview about his best moments with the national team.
A champion of Africa in 2015 with the Elephants, Salomon Kalou left a lasting mark on his country. However, he could have easily played for another national team: the Netherlands, with which he could have contested the World Cup.
Ultimately, the former Chelsea player chose to represent his country of origin. He confesses in the interview that even if he hadn’t played for the national team, he would still have proudly represented the country’s colors.
“My fondest memory with the national team is the Côte d’Ivoire vs Senegal match, a qualification for the World Cup. My idols are Bonaventure and then Thierry Henry. If I hadn’t played for Côte d’Ivoire, I would have loved to represent them. My favorite dish is peanut sauce with rice,” he stated.
Salomon Kalou is the second highest goal scorer in the history of Côte d’Ivoire, behind Didier Drogba. He has also amassed an impressive list of achievements throughout his career, moving from Chelsea to Hertha Berlin via Lille. In addition to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he boasts a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, as well as four FA Cups, a League Cup, and a Community Shield.
