During an outing, Ivorian legend Yaya Touré revealed that winning the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) is more powerful than winning the Champions League.
He explained that while the Champions League is a prestigious competition and winning it is an honor for any player, lifting a trophy for one’s country brings an indescribable joy.
Yaya Touré expressed it this way: “Winning the CAN is stronger than winning the Champions League. Winning a trophy for your country is truly wonderful. Every time I won a trophy, I remained indifferent. But this, it’s total happiness.”
This sentiment echoes views previously shared by star Didier Drogba a few weeks earlier. In an interview, the former captain of the Ivory Coast national team expressed his regret at never having won a CAN during his career.
“My biggest regret will be sporting. Because I never managed to achieve my goals with the national team. Well, to achieve one of my goals with the national team, which was to win the CAN. Sportingly, that’s my biggest regret, yes,” he said.
