Extended by Galatasaray a few weeks ago, Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech has set the tone for the upcoming season.

At the end of June, Galatasaray announced they were exercising the purchase option for Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea, despite interest from several suitors, including Saudi Arabia. The Moroccan team captain (62 caps, 23 goals) had a satisfactory loan spell (23 matches, 8 goals, 4 assists) despite interruptions due to injuries.

Galatasaray: Ziyech's promise!

“I will be better this year”

Clearly pleased, the 31-year-old left-footer is aiming for a better individual season in 2024-2025. “Honestly, I’m very excited about the new season. Regardless of what is said, what matters is what I do. I see it day by day and I try to make the most of it. I will try to do my best this year too,” he promised in an interview with Milliyet.

Reflecting on his first season in Istanbul, he added, “There were ups and downs. When I arrived, I was injured. I recovered afterwards, but my muscle injury recurred. I went to the Africa Cup and got injured there too. As I said, it was a season with ups and downs for me, but it ended well. (…) I have no issues. I am improving every day. I think I will be better this year.”

Ziyech has always delighted with his technique, earning the nickname “magician” from fans since his Ajax days. While flattered, the former Ajax player remains grounded. “I play my own game. I also try to entertain them. It’s a nice nickname, but it can change in an instant!” he remarked, implying he won’t rest on his laurels.
