Morocco has reacted firmly regarding the organization of the 2030 World Cup final.
The debate over the event’s location has intensified, especially after reports from the Spanish media outlet Marca suggesting that Spain is leading to host this prestigious final at the new Santiago Bernabeu. However, Morocco’s position is notably different.
Faouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), clarified the situation in a recent interview with Média24. He emphasized that Morocco has not yet made a definitive decision regarding hosting either the final or the opening match of the 2030 World Cup.
“Morocco has not yet decided whether it wishes to secure the final or the opening match. We have strong arguments, and the final decision will be made in consultation with our Spanish and Portuguese partners,” stated the Moroccan leader. He also added that any potential disagreement would be subject to FIFA arbitration.
In pursuit of this ambition, Morocco is involved in constructing the world’s largest stadium, located north of Casablanca, with a planned capacity of 115,000 seats. This ambitious project is expected to be completed by 2026, surpassing the current record-holder, the “Premier-May Day Stadium” in Pyongyang, North Korea, which seats 114,000 but is primarily used for parades rather than sports events.
