Morocco Olympic coach Tarik Sektioui has made a change to his squad for the football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Just over two weeks before their debut at the Olympics, Morocco has replaced central defender Ayman El Wafi with Adil Tahif, announced the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) on Tuesday. Initially included in Sektioui’s 22-man squad last week, El Wafi was unable to join due to club commitments with FC Lugano in Switzerland. El Wafi himself confirmed this in an Instagram Story message.
“I inform you that I will not be able to participate in the Olympic Games due to a decision by a club that I respect. I want to tell my teammates to give their all and make us dream. I will be your biggest supporter, go guys,” posted the 20-year-old defender. Tahif leaves the reserve
This marks the first time since his debut in March 2023 (11 caps) that the Camaiore-born player will miss a national team gathering. This presents an opportunity for his replacement Tahif, three years his senior and currently playing for RS Berkane, who was last called up in March. Tahif was among the four reserves along with Reda Asmama, Haytam Manaout, and Mehdi Moubarik. It’s a chance to train alongside Munir El Kajoui before the new season begins with RS Berkane’s newly arrived goalkeeper this summer.
