Morocco: Regragui on tour in Saudi Arabia

The coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, has been scouting some players in Saudi Arabia ahead of the upcoming gathering in June.

It’s a trend nowadays. After Marc Brys (Cameroon) and Vladimir Petkovic (Algeria), it’s now Walid Regragui’s turn to conduct a reconnaissance tour of players in preparation for the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June. Regragui supervised a forgotten player

The objective was evidently to observe the other two Moroccans in the Meccan team: goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi, but especially the 35-year-old midfielder Fayçal Fajr, never summoned by the coach.

In his second season with the Knights of Mecca, the tireless midfielder is simply the most utilized player in the squad (32 appearances, all as a starter, and over 2,800 minutes played). In parallel, the former Caen player is the top provider of assists with 8 decisive passes and the fourth-highest scorer of the club in the league (4 goals), eight goals behind Nigerian Odion Ighalo (12 goals). While he has not been spared from his team’s collective failure, he still has chances of being recalled by the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists. A 51-time international (4 goals), his last appearance with the Moroccan squad dates back to June 13, 2022. He then stood out with a penalty goal for the opening score against Liberia (0-2) in the framework of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
