During an interview, the national coach of Morocco, Walid Regragui, was falsely quoted as saying he dreams of coaching a club in Saudi Arabia. This statement sparked controversy on social media and in the press.

The recent trip by Walid Regragui to Saudi Arabia has stirred up a storm online. An article published by the Saudi media Arriyadiyah contained alleged statements from the Moroccan coach about his future and potential willingness to coach in Saudi Arabia, sparking controversy. In the article, he was quoted as saying:

“For now, I am focused on my work with the Moroccan national team. My ambition remains to work in Europe. If I do not coach in Europe, I have no objection to working in an Arab country, particularly in the Saudi league.”

This false statement quickly set the internet ablaze, eliciting mixed reactions among Moroccan football fans and observers. Some expressed surprise and disappointment at these allegations, while others defended the integrity of the Moroccan manager and called for respect for his reputation.

However, a source close to Walid Regragui stated that the coach never granted an interview to this media outlet and thus never made such statements. This source clarified that Walid Regragui did indeed encounter the journalist at Al Wehda Stadium. However, this meeting was not scheduled, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) did not receive any interview requests. Furthermore, there are no statements from the coach.

“Walid Regragui did cross paths with the journalist at Al Wehda Stadium, but this encounter was not planned. The journalist did not send any interview requests to the FRMF, and the coach did not make any statements,” explained the source.

The source added, “the coach was surprised to read this alleged interview, which quickly spread through the media and social networks.”
