The iconic captain of Morocco’s national team is making every effort to lure a player from Algeria’s national team to his club.

Olympique de Marseille remains steadfast in their pursuit to sign Mohamed Bachir Beloumi, the prominent Algerian international from Portuguese club Várzea, during the current summer transfer window.

This initiative reflects a determined effort to bolster the attacking prowess of the Southern French team, aligning with the directives of their new manager, Roberto Di Zerbi, aiming to ensure strong performances for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

French media sources recently reported Marseille’s initial offer to Várzea, although the financial and contractual details of this proposal have not been disclosed. However, according to “Foot Marseille,” citing “La Provence,” a second offer has been tabled at €6 million. This sum represents an enticing bid, exceeding Beloumi’s current market value of €4 million as estimated by Transfermarkt.

Moroccan sports advisor Mehdi Benatia, former captain of Morocco and representative of Olympique de Marseille, plays a crucial role in this potential transfer of the Algerian player. He is actively advocating for the talented Algerian to join Marseille during this summer transfer window, providing coach Di Zerbi with a potential asset for the upcoming campaign.

Olympique de Marseille is prepared to meet Várzea’s financial demands of €6 million to secure Beloumi’s signature, aiming to fend off competition from other European suitors. Among these are renowned clubs such as Portuguese side Benfica, Spain’s Sevilla, Belgium’s Club Brugge, and Italy’s Parma, as reported by Algerian media.

The heightened interest in Beloumi from Marseille and other European clubs stems from his impressive 2023-2024 season with Várzea, where he scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese club.

On the international stage, the previous season was also significant for Beloumi, who received his first call-up in October under former Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi. Although he has yet to make his debut for the national team, the Algerian international remains under contract with Várzea until 2027, pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations with Olympique de Marseille.
