After losing to Tunisia two years ago, the Super Eagles are among the favourites for the CAN 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire (January 13 – February 11). Who are the Nigerian players to watch at CAN 2024?

Calvin Bassey, indisputable at Fulham in the Premier League, has established himself as an important element in José Peseiro’s eleven, as has his team-mate and compatriot, the experienced Alex Iwobi (63 caps, 10 goals), who plays in midfield behind an impressive forward line featuring, among others, Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan), Moses Simon (FC Nantes) and Terem Moffi (OGC Nice).

Akor Adams (Montpellier), one of Ligue 1’s top five scorers, was not included. Wilfred Ndidi, one of the squad’s key players, is injured and has been forced to withdraw. Like Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, one of the revelations of the Bundesliga season.

What is Nigeria’s group for CAN 2024?

Along with hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria are favourites in Group A. The Super Eagles will take on the Elephants on January 18, after facing Equatorial Guinea in the opening match on January 14, and before finishing the group phase against Guinea-Bissau.

What is Nigeria’s track record at CAN 2024?

Behind Egypt (7), Cameroon (5) and Ghana (4), Nigeria is, along with Zaire, the fourth most successful team in the history of the competition, with three continental titles. The first in 1980, the second in 1994 and the last in 2013. The Super Eagles had previously failed to reach the final four times: in 1984, 1988, 1990 and 2000.

At the previous Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Tunisia (0-1).
