Legendary Brazilian forward Antonio Careca has praised Victor Osimhen for his remarkable contributions to Napoli, as reports swirl about his departure from the Serie A champions of the 2022-2023 season.

The Nigerian’s impact has been undeniable, especially during Napoli’s triumphant season, where he became the top scorer in Serie A with an impressive 26 goals in 32 league matches.

The Nigerian footballer has continued his form this season despite the team’s poor form and his injuries.

Osimhen’s Legacy at Napoli

The Super Eagles’ star striker joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 from the French club Lille, becoming the club’s record signing.

Careca said, as reported by Napoli Magazine: “He had a slow start to life in Naples, scoring only 10 goals in all competitions in his first season. However, he blossomed in the following campaign, winning the Serie A Young Player of the Year award.

I hope he can continue to do well as he has done at Napoli. I’ve met him, he’s a respectable boy, and he’s done very well with Napoli, scoring many goals and contributing to the championship victory.”

Careca’s sentiments reflect a deep appreciation for the young player’s on-field prowess and character off it.

Throughout his time in Italian football, Osimhen has rewritten the record books, breaking the record for the most goals scored by an African player in a single season and the record for the most goals scored by an African player in the league’s history.
