Former Egyptian footballer Ahmed Mido has expressed his discontent towards John Mikel Obi and Yakubu Ayegbeni, two former Nigerian internationals, for their critical attitude towards Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool forward.

Mido, a former Tottenham player, is particularly disappointed to see these former Nigerian players, now pundits, levying harsh criticisms against Salah in the media.

Ahmed Mido believes that Mohamed Salah, with his exceptional performances in the Premier League, should not be subjected to criticism, especially from former players. He highlights the perplexity towards the attitude of Mikel Obi and Yakubu, two Africans, targeting another African, shedding light on Salah’s achievements such as the records for goals and assists by an African in the Premier League, as well as being the top African scorer in the Champions League.

“I don’t understand why former African players like Obi Mikel and now Yakubu criticize Salah so much. What has he done wrong? Salah holds the record for goals and assists by an African in the Premier League, and he is also the African with the most goals in the Champions League. He deserves more respect. Politics should stay out of football. As Africans, we should unite, whether we’re from the North, West, or elsewhere on the continent, instead of denigrating each other,” said Ahmed Mido.

Mido thus calls on his former colleagues to value and celebrate players representing Africa in Europe, including Mohamed Salah.
