Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker currently playing for Napoli in Italy, could soon make history as the most expensive African player of all time in the ongoing summer transfer window. Reports suggest he may surpass figures like Mahrez and Hakimi.
At just 25 years old, Osimhen is at the center of speculation over a potential record-breaking move from Napoli, valued at least €100 million according to Transfermarkt. This would set a new benchmark for an African player, exceeding previous records set by footballers such as Riyad Mahrez and Achraf Hakimi.
Sources indicate that the Nigerian forward has already agreed to leave Napoli this summer. However, the Italian club is known for tough negotiations, suggesting the deal could meet or even surpass Osimhen’s €110 million release clause.
Currently under contract with Napoli until June 30, 2026, Osimhen and his representatives are in a strong position for negotiations, with significant interest from top European clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the Saudi Pro League emerging as a serious option.
If he moves this summer, Victor Osimhen could not only become the most expensive African player ever but also eclipse figures like Riyad Mahrez and Achraf Hakimi in this prestigious ranking.
Achraf Hakimi, who moved from Inter Milan to Paris Saint-Germain for €60 million, and Riyad Mahrez, transferred from Leicester City to Manchester City for the same amount, currently rank among the most expensive transfers in African football history.
Nicolas Pépé, another Ivorian player, tops this list with his €72 million move to Arsenal from LOSC Lille in 2019, though his transfer has been criticized as one of the worst in the English club’s history.
