Senegal will make their baptism of fire at the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) on Monday, when they take on Gambia in the 1st round of group matches.
The reigning African champions will have their work cut out against a tough opponent who made some positive impressions at last year’s event in Cameroon.
Without his main man Boulaye Dia, “Lions” coach Aliou Cissé will have to recompose his forward line.
Nicolas Jackson is expected to replace the Salernitana player on the front line.
Sadio Mané and Ismaila Sarr will man the two flanks, while the midfield will be made up of Nampalys Mendy, Pape Matar Sarr and Cheikhou Kouyaté.
The defense will be made up of the quartet of Krépin Diatta, Ismail Jakobs, Kalidou Koulibaly and Moussa Niakhaté. Meanwhile, Édouard Mendy will continue to keep goal.
Senegal, the strong favourites?
According to many experts, Senegal are the overwhelming favourites to win the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
That said, they will have to contend with a number of competitive teams, including Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt.
