Benjamin Mendy Wins Legal Battle Against Manchester City Over Unpaid Wages. In an ongoing legal dispute with Manchester City regarding unpaid wages, Benjamin Mendy has finally emerged victorious. The 30-year-old former defender, after navigating various positions in this legal battle, successfully asserted his rights.

Mendy recently found himself at the center of a high-profile trial facing charges of rape and sexual assault, allegations that were said to have occurred while he was playing for Manchester City. Despite maintaining his innocence, the 2018 World Cup winner spent four months in custody before being released on bail to await the verdict. On July 14, 2023, he was acquitted of all charges.

With those accusations behind him, Mendy then pursued a new legal case, this time against his former employer. He accused Manchester City of failing to pay him wages during the period leading up to his trial, a sum reportedly exceeding €13 million, according to British media. This financial shortfall took a toll on the player, forcing him to sell his mansion in Manchester. In his statements, Mendy spoke about his struggles to support his family and expressed gratitude to some of his teammates, such as Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez, for their financial support during his time of need.

In this case, Mendy did not shy away from criticizing Manchester City’s treatment of him, feeling that the club had unfairly singled him out. “Several first-team players, including the captain, were also present at the parties I attended. We all drank alcohol, broke COVID-19 restrictions, and engaged in casual relationships. I do not excuse my behavior, but I find it unfair that City singled me out in this way, especially when the only difference between me and my teammates is that I was falsely accused,” Mendy stated.

Manchester City’s lawyer, Sean Jones, responded by explaining that the withholding of Mendy’s wages was not a disciplinary measure but related to his inability to fulfill his duties. However, the court ruled in Mendy’s favor. According to reports from the Daily Mail and Sky Sports, Judge Joanne Dunlop concluded that Manchester City did not have the right to withhold Mendy’s salary while he was not incarcerated. This marks another significant legal win for Benjamin Mendy.
