Former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has spoken out about his club’s current situation.

Between 2004 and 2017, Wayne Rooney enjoyed years of glory in the north of England. Trained at Everton, the feisty striker simply won everything with Manchester United: five Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Europa League, an FA Cup, and a Club World Cup. A golden period marked by 253 goals in all competitions in 559 appearances for the Mancunians.

“I think 10 to 15 players should leave the club.” Inevitably, the legendary former striker must be suffering while watching the matches of his beloved club, which has been in serious difficulty since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to turn the page in 2013. Indeed, the team has simply stopped winning the English league, settling for the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.

Asked to comment on the subject, the man who has turned to coaching, without much success, but also to consulting, with more success, did not mince his words: “I think 10 to 15 players should leave the club. I would keep Bruno (Fernandes) and Kobbie Mainoo,” he first explained to the Football Talk HQ podcast. He continued: “There is a culture at the club where it is too easy to lose games and where players rush to say: ‘Next!’ You just have to show character and fight on the pitch. It’s painful to watch, it hurts. After spending so many years at Manchester United, I want the team to succeed, I have my children at the youth academy, and it hurts to watch them play.” A strong message that is sure to get people talking in the north of England.
