As three stars could accompany the young Bleuets this summer at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Thierry Henry has so far refused to clearly state the identity of confirmed players who could be on his list, despite rumors surrounding Kylian Mbappé or Karim Benzema. When questioned, the coach made his position clear.
Four months ahead of the start of the men’s football tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics (from July 24 to August 9, 2024), the mystery remains regarding the players selected by Thierry Henry, especially the three over-23 players that the coach of the U23 team can call up.
Names like Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann, and even Karim Benzema are mentioned as potential participants, but so far, Thierry Henry has refused to give any hints. “I come back to the same debate, I don’t name anyone. I haven’t named anyone. The list will be extended. All doors are open, for everyone. Now who will be on the list? That’s another debate. Papin and Cantona can come too (laughs),” he responded regarding Karim Benzema in “Rothen s’enflamme cette semaine.” When pressed further on Friday, the 1998 World Cup champion maintained his position.
“I still don’t mention any names. And I won’t today”
“I haven’t mentioned any players. You mention them and every time I tell you that I’ve heard, just like all of you. Quite a few players have spoken and I still don’t mention any names. And I won’t today (smile),” Thierry Henry stated when asked about Karim Benzema, as reported by RMC. Why such a stance? The Frenchman justified himself.
“I still don’t know what will happen”
“I can understand, it’s completely normal that the question is asked, that people wonder. My answer may be repetitive and I apologize for that. I hear what you hear too, we’ll see what happens later. I don’t have to like it or not like it. I have to respect what people think, your questions. You also respect my answers. There are no certainties and I’ve been honest with you since Monday. I know, I know the positions but between yes and no, having to land on one’s feet… I still don’t know what will happen but I hear players talking like you do,” explained Thierry Henry.
