While his fight was supposed to be a celebration for all his fans, Deontay Wilder could finally find himself retired. Dominated from start to finish on his return to competition, the American was absolutely unrecognisable. Francis Ngannou and Cédric Doumbé reacted.

After an absence of more than a year, Deontay Wilder was back in the ring on Saturday to win another world title. Fans were expecting a quick knockout and a display of power, but the American was unrecognisable against New Zealander Joseph Parker. In fact, it was a miracle that he went all the way to a decision after taking such a heavy beating.

Doumbé and Ngannou discuss Deontay Wilder’s defeat

Incredibly well prepared, Joseph Parker put Wilder under constant pressure, preventing him from deploying his legendary right. The Bronze Bomber logically lost by unanimous decision, which caused some of the stars to react. Francis Ngannou is already looking ahead to his next fight, while Cédric Doumbé is calling for the 38-year-old puncher to retire.

While Francis Ngannou is looking forward to facing this version of Deontay Wilder in boxing or MMA, Cédric Doumbé thinks it’s time for him to give up. And the man himself seems to agree, explaining in a press conference that he might retire. The Predator will have to find a new target, and the fans are all clamouring for Englishman Anthony Joshua.

At 38 and having earned tens of millions during his career, Deontay Wilder may not have much left to prove. It remains to be seen whether he will allow himself to be tempted by a final duel with Francis Ngannou.
