The official FIFA rankings were released this Thursday, confirming significant drops for Ivory Coast and Tunisia.

As expected, Ivory Coast has fallen seven spots in the global rankings, while Tunisia experienced the largest decline, dropping 11 places since the last update. Consequently, both teams, previously in the African top 10, have each slid two positions (now 6th and 7th), overtaken by Nigeria (4th, +3 instead of the initially expected +4) and Algeria (5th, +4 instead of +3). Meanwhile, despite advancing four spots, Cameroon remains in 8th place.

Morocco Holds the Lead, Senegal Rejoins the Global Top 20

Morocco maintains its top spot among African nations, while climbing one position in the global rankings (13th). Senegal, following two victories over Malawi, returns to the world’s top 20 (20th, +1), despite the unexpected departure of Aliou Cissé. Egypt follows in third place in Africa (30th, +1). Meanwhile, Mali remains steady in 54th place, three spots ahead of DR Congo, which completes the African top 10 at 57th (+1).

Comoros Achieves the Most Spectacular Rise

In the second half of Africa’s top 20, few changes were noted, except for Gabon (85th, -1), which was overtaken by Angola (82nd, +3), and Benin’s exit in favor of Equatorial Guinea, making a return. Cape Verde suffered the biggest point loss (-38.3) after two defeats to Botswana (0-1, 1-0), dropping to 72nd place (-7), closely followed by a struggling Ghana (73rd, -3), which drew (0-0) and then lost (0-2) against Sudan.

Botswana, with a rise of 7 places (140th, +7) and a gain of 38.3 points, recorded the highest point increase. However, the Comoros achieved the most impressive leap, climbing 10 places to reach 108th position after their performances against Tunisia (0-1, 1-1). Meanwhile, the global top 3 remains unchanged, with Argentina leading, followed by France and Spain.
