PSG is still struggling to come to terms with Kylian Mbappé’s departure to Real Madrid. While the French striker and the Parisian club, led by president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, are locked in a dispute over unpaid salaries and bonuses, Cyril Hanouna, a television host close to the PSG president, didn’t hold back in his remarks about the player.
After seven years with PSG, including a particularly tumultuous final season, Kylian Mbappé left the club this summer to join Real Madrid, a transfer that had been anticipated for over two years. Despite scoring 10 goals in 19 matches with Los Blancos, his performances have failed to fully convince, drawing criticism for his playing style. Against this backdrop, Cyril Hanouna openly criticized Real Madrid’s new number 9.
“A Spiral of Failure”: Hanouna Takes Aim at Mbappé
In a blunt critique, Cyril Hanouna described Kylian Mbappé’s transfer to Real Madrid as “the biggest mistake of his life.” A close ally of PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Hanouna stated:
“He made the biggest mistake of his life by going to Real Madrid. He’s caught in a spiral of failure (…) Mbappé should have stayed at PSG, won the Champions League with the club, and become a Ballon d’Or winner there. The club gave him everything; it would have been his club. He would have been the leader at PSG.”
These remarks, reported by Foot Mercato, reflect the bitterness felt by some Parisians over Mbappé’s departure. During his seven years in Paris, the Bondy native neither won the Champions League nor claimed a Ballon d’Or—achievements seen as vital for cementing his legacy. However, moving to Real Madrid, a club renowned for turning players into global superstars, might still be his ticket to reaching those heights.
Mbappé: A Mixed Start, but a Promising Future at Madrid
Despite a challenging start to the season, Mbappé appears to be gradually finding his footing at Real Madrid. Under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti and with the unwavering support of Florentino Pérez, the former PSG star is showing encouraging signs, as demonstrated by his recent goal against Getafe. While doubts about his mental state remain, his renewed smile and undeniable talent suggest a bright future ahead.
As Thibaut Courtois pointed out, Mbappé’s situation can only improve. Enjoying the full confidence of President Pérez, the French national team captain seems well on his way to achieving greatness.
