After the 2-0 victory against Getafe, Thibaut Courtois directed criticism at Kylian Mbappé during an interview on Real Madrid TV.
Real Madrid bounced back after their defeat at Anfield against Liverpool in the Champions League. On Sunday, at the Bernabéu, the Madrid side dominated Getafe with a decisive performance from Mbappé.
Following a disappointing display against Liverpool, the French forward shone in La Liga, scoring a stunning goal in the first half. Assisted by Jude Bellingham, Mbappé netted a gem, strengthening his team’s lead. However, he missed the chance to widen the scoreline in the second half, failing to convert several clear opportunities, including two one-on-ones, much to the frustration of his teammates, notably Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois criticizes and motivates.
After the match, Courtois praised the team’s collective response while highlighting areas for improvement:
“We reacted well after Wednesday’s defeat. We could have scored two more goals, but in the second half, we forgot to play. What’s unfortunate is that Kylian couldn’t capitalize on his chances. It will come; he’ll score plenty. We stay focused and will see in May if that’s enough to win the league.”
Alongside his critique of Mbappé’s finishing, the Belgian goalkeeper emphasized a crucial point: the importance of defensive involvement from all players, including Mbappé.
A Call for Defensive Solidarity
Courtois reminded everyone that football relies on collective commitment:
“The commitment of the entire team is essential. Whether you’re a forward or a winger, all eleven players must defend. Today, we were lucky with the posts, but that’s part of the game.”
He also celebrated his 250th match with Real Madrid, calling it a special moment at the best club in the world.
