Senegal’s coach, Aliou Cissé, hasn’t hesitated to express his ambitions ahead of the final phase of the upcoming edition of the World Cup, set to take place in 2026 in the United States.

Freshly reinstated as the head of the “Lions,” the former Paris Saint-Germain player has expressed confidence in the possibility of Senegal outperforming Morocco in the World Cup.

“Beyond the AFCON, we’re working to win a World Cup. Morocco has shown us that an African team can reach the semi-finals. We aspire to become the first African team to win the World Cup,” stated “El Tatico” in an interview with the French newspaper “Le Parisien.” For reference, Senegal currently holds the top spot in their Group B in the qualifiers alongside Sudan, with a harvest of 4 points.

Aliou Cissé’s record with Senegal! Since his appointment as head coach of the “Lions,” Aliou Cissé has been involved in 97 matches across all competitions, boasting 63 victories, 21 draws, and 13 losses.

Despite being the unfortunate runner-up in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations edition, the Ziguinchor native was the main architect behind Senegal’s ultimate triumph in the 2021 AFCON.
