Assane Diao, the Senegalese forward for Como, will have to wait several more weeks before returning to the pitch. Suffering from a thigh injury on December 15 during the match against AS Roma, the 20-year-old has been unable to participate in his club’s matches and had to miss the last Africa Cup of Nations, drawing significant media attention.
His return, initially expected before the end of January, is taking longer than anticipated. Cesc Fàbregas, Como’s coach, clarified on Saturday during a press conference that the player won’t be able to resume team training until March. “He will start training with the group in three weeks, but his recovery is slower than expected. We need to be very careful. For the last three months of the season, we have to consider him like a new signing,” he stated.

This prolonged absence adds to an already challenging history for the young forward. Since April 2025, Assane Diao has played only seven matches across all competitions due to successive injuries that have hindered his progress and consistency at the club. The player and the club are now emphasizing a gradual return to avoid any risk of relapse and to maximize his performance for the end of the season.
