Two new announcements for the Lions of Teranga ahead of the World Cup

African champions for the second time in their history after their victory against Morocco (1-0 after extra time) on January 18 in Rabat, Senegal is actively preparing its friendly match schedule ahead of the 2026 World Cup. According to Afrik-foot, the Lions want to finalize their calendar for the upcoming FIFA window, set for March 23 to 31, 2026.

In this regard, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has started discussions with several national teams. The most advanced options point towards Iran and Russia, with plans to organize a friendly match in Europe. To coordinate these fixtures, the FSF has entrusted a mandate to the agency Sportedge. This agency also has a non-exclusive mandate to organize a match in Dakar, which could be officially announced soon.

Other options are being explored to complete the schedule. Uruguay, expected in England on March 27 and already approached by Algeria and Israel, is among the potential opponents. Peru, which currently has no matches scheduled, would be a more flexible alternative. Additionally, a match against Argentina has been mentioned and is under negotiation, though no official announcement has been made yet.

As for Senegal’s future opponents in the 2026 World Cup, their schedules are also taking shape. France will travel to the United States to face Brazil on March 26, then Colombia on March 29. Norway, on the other hand, will head to the Netherlands on March 27 before hosting Switzerland on March 31. Group I, which Senegal could be part of according to upcoming draws, will be completed by Bolivia, Suriname, or Iraq following the intercontinental playoffs.

After the club championships conclude, the African champions will enter the final phase of their preparation with a friendly match against the United States on May 31 in Charlotte. Another match, currently being finalized, is expected to pit them against Saudi Arabia between June 5 and 9, according to exclusive information.
