“I’m being pushed into retirement”… A Senegalese executive breaks his silence!

The valiant Senegalese midfielder, Cheikhou Kouyaté, expressed his sadness at the pressure exerted by some individuals for him to end his international career.

“I don’t know how many years I have left. Only God knows. But for now, if I can squeeze out a few more years to enjoy myself, all the better,” he stated in a declaration to APS.

“It doesn’t bother me if some are pushing me towards retirement because I know what I am capable of. And if I have to address this issue, it would be in front of football connoisseurs,” he continued. Aged 34, Cheikhou Kouyaté continues to perform at the top level with Nottingham Forest, an English club competing in the Premier League.

During the current season, the Dakar native has participated in 13 matches across all competitions, without scoring any goals or providing any assists.

Cheikhou Kouyaté’s record with Senegal

An international since 2012, Cheikhou Kouyaté has played 89 matches for the “Lions”, scoring 4 goals and providing only one assist.

He has two World Cup appearances to his name as well as 4 Africa Cup of Nations finals, including the one won in 2022.
