The Ministry of Sports intervenes in the FSF case

The day after the press conference held by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the Ministry of Youth and Sports decided to officially respond to the growing controversy surrounding Senegal’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 14, the department led by Djirèye Clotilde Coly asked the FSF to immediately cease all public statements regarding this competition. The government believes that the numerous media appearances in recent days are fueling controversies that harm the image of Senegalese football and the country itself. At the same time, the state announced the launch of an official review to thoroughly examine the circumstances of the Lions’ campaign during the World Cup.

This decision comes just twenty-four hours after the press conference organized by the Senegalese Football Federation. During this meeting, several federation leaders spoke on particularly sensitive issues, including the choices made during the World Cup, the termination of former coach Pape Thiaw’s contract, and other matters related to the national team’s operations. The various statements quickly sparked numerous reactions in public opinion, on social media, and among several stakeholders in Senegalese football, reigniting a debate that has been very heated since the Lions’ elimination.

In its statement, the ministry claims to be closely monitoring the events that have unfolded over the past few days. It emphasizes that media exchanges and public positions regarding the management of the national team risk distracting from the real sporting issues at stake. According to the authorities, the priority must now be to preserve the best interests of Senegalese football and protect the country’s image, rather than prolong public discussions that could deepen divisions among the various stakeholders involved in this matter.

The text published by the ministry also stresses the negative consequences of these controversies. The authorities believe that the proliferation of contradictory statements contributes to a climate of confusion and undermines the credibility of national sports institutions. For this reason, they explicitly request that the Senegalese Football Federation immediately suspend all public communication regarding Senegal’s participation in the World Cup until further notice. This instruction aims to ease tensions and allow for a more calm handling of the situation.

Beyond this measure, the state announces its intention to take control of the matter to establish a complete diagnosis of the Lions’ campaign. The ministry specifies that an official review will be conducted in the coming weeks. This evaluation will analyze all aspects related to preparation, organization, sporting performances, and decisions made during the tournament. The authorities want to have a comprehensive view of the facts before drawing conclusions or considering any potential measures.

The statement also clarifies that this evaluation will be conducted in strict adherence to administrative and institutional procedures. “A complete and rigorous assessment will be carried out officially. This evaluation will be done in strict compliance with procedures and with all the seriousness required,” the ministry states. Through this approach, the government aims to ensure an impartial examination of the situation, away from media controversies and heated reactions that have multiplied in recent days.

This stance marks a new step in managing the fallout from Senegal’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup. By asking the Senegalese Football Federation to suspend all public communication on the subject while announcing an official review, the ministry shows its desire to restore a more peaceful climate. Now, it remains to be seen what conclusions will be drawn from this evaluation and what decisions might be made for the future of Senegalese football.
