Sadio Mané has etched his name in Liverpool’s history books. Nearly two years after his departure, the Senegalese winger has been praised by a former teammate.
Arriving from Southampton in 2016, Sadio Mané built his legend at Liverpool. Over six seasons, the Senegalese international (105 caps, 42 goals) played over 260 matches and won every possible title with the club from the north of England. Individually, the former Metz player also finished as the Premier League’s top scorer in 2018-2019. A successful season where he also clinched the first of his two African Ballon d’Or awards (2019, 2022).
In an interview for The Overlap, his former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is completing his eighth season with the Reds, showered him with praise. The right-back particularly lauded the athletic abilities of the Bambaly native, even comparing him to Cristiano Ronaldo, renowned as the epitome of a complete player.
“He was a perfect forward”
“He’s the only player I’ve played with and against whom I never wanted to play. He was a perfect forward,” stated the Englishman before elaborating. “He had everything. As an athlete, I’d say he was probably similar to Ronaldo. He had the leap, he was fast, he had the finishing. Probably not the same as Ronaldo, but he could finish with both feet. He was a constant threat to everyone.”
Symbolically, Mané joined CR7 last summer at Al-Nassr after a tough spell at Bayern Munich. Together, they scored over half of their team’s goals, with 29 for the Portuguese, who was the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League.
