Patrice Motsepe decides: Senegal and Morocco set before the TAS verdict

Some Lions of Teranga, including Pape Gueye, Ismaïla Sarr, and Ismail Jakobs, shared images on Instagram of their connection with supporters, accompanied by strong messages like: “Real champions on the field” and “More than a match, a celebration.” This episode could have ended there… but the controversy quickly escalated.

Indeed, some Moroccan players reportedly “liked” these posts, sparking a fierce reaction from the Lions of the Atlas supporters.

“They spit on the jersey”

That’s what several Moroccan fans claim, backed up by screenshots. Their targets: Ismaël Saibari (PSV Eindhoven), Eliesse Ben Seghir (Bayer Leverkusen), Oussama Targhalline (Feyenoord Rotterdam), and Yassine Kechta (Le Havre). Although these “likes” were removed shortly after appearing, the anger hasn’t subsided.

On social media, reactions are fierce: “Betrayal,” “National shame,” “They don’t deserve to wear the jersey,” can be read. Some influential accounts are even calling for immediate sanctions, arguing that these actions go against the interests of Moroccan football in an already tense context against Senegal.

Moroccan Federation under pressure

In light of the controversy, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation may intervene quickly. According to journalist Ilyes Kaddouri, its president, Faouzi Lekjaa, is particularly upset about the situation, viewing these behaviors as disrespectful to the institution.

Sanctions could be considered: warnings, fines, or even temporary sidelining of the involved players.

An already explosive context around CAN 2026

This episode once again highlights the intense tensions surrounding the CAN 2026 issue. The final verdict is now awaited from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

For his part, the president of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe, emphasized a clear stance: “Whatever the decision of the CAS, we will respect it.”
