As announced in mid-February, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has finally appealed the suspension imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Krépin Diatta.

On February 15, in a rather bizarre turn of events, the FSF confirmed the suspension of the versatile Lions defender, Krépin Diatta (41 caps, 2 goals), by CAF. Indeed, 24 hours after vehemently denying initial rumors from the press, notably from L’Observateur, the federation officially acknowledged the sanction imposed on the Monaco player.

Found guilty of accusing CAF referees and officials of corruption following Senegal’s frustrating elimination in the round of 16 of the 2023 AFCON by the host nation Ivory Coast, who were eventual winners, Diatta was handed a four-match suspension, including two suspended, along with a $10,000 fine (€9,318.35). He is thus set to serve his punishment in June for the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against DR Congo and Mauritania.

The Federation has lodged its appeal

The FSF chose this moment to lodge its appeal. According to information from PressAfrik, citing internal sources from CAF, the body headed by Augustin Senghor has approached the Confederation’s Appeals Chamber. The aim? To overturn the suspension handed down by the Disciplinary Committee.

When contacted by L’Observateur, FSF Secretary General Victor Ciss confirmed that they “filed the appeal within the stipulated timeframe.” The Appeals Chamber is expected to convene before the match against the Leopards on June 3, and could potentially rule favorably. Meanwhile, pending the verdict, Diatta is unlikely to be selected for the next two matches.
