Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has definitively ruled out the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia, stating that he will honor the final year of his contract with Manchester City.
Clubs from the Saudi Pro League will therefore have to wait before attempting again to recruit the Belgian maestro. This announcement echoes the situation of his former teammate at City, Riyad Mahrez, who has already made the move to the Saudi Pro League by signing with Al-Ahli.
Speculation about Kevin De Bruyne’s future had escalated due to his contract not being renewed at Man City, with some media outlets even linking him to a potential move to Saudi Arabia, fueling rumors of a possible reunion with Mahrez. However, on the sidelines of the round of 16 match between Belgium and France, De Bruyne clarified his position. “I have one year left on my contract. Yes, I am staying. I will go on vacation after the Euros,” he said.
The midfielder also clarified the nature of his discussion with Michael Emanalo, director of sport for the Saudi Pro League. “I talked with Michael Emanalo at the Club World Cup. I know him, it’s logical to talk to him.
But it was not about signing,” he added. This clarification firmly closes the door to any immediate departure speculation and reassures Manchester City fans about De Bruyne’s presence for the upcoming season.
So, for those hoping to see De Bruyne and Mahrez play together again, patience will be required. Kevin De Bruyne seems determined to continue his journey with Manchester City, at least for one more season.
