Senegal national team coach Aliou Cissé has been rewarded for his role at the helm of the Lions of Teranga with a monthly salary of 46,000 euros, equivalent to around 30,170,000 CFA francs.
This salary places Cissé among the highest-paid coaches on the African continent, underlining the appreciation and confidence shown in him by the Senegalese Football Federation.
Here are the 15 highest-paid coaches in Africa
15 – Baciro Candé (Guinea-Bissau) – 9,000 euros per month (FCFA 5,900,000)
He is the lowest-earning coach in our Top 15 coaches in Africa in 2023. At the helm of Guinea-Bissau since 2016, Baciro Candé earns €9,000. In a country where financial data doesn’t circulate enough, he may have had a much better salary in the meantime, we don’t know more at the moment.
14 – Jalel Kadri (Tunisia) – 11,000 euros a month (7,215,000 FCFA)
At the helm of the Tunisian team since last year, Jalel Kadri is paid €11,000 a month. A FIFA World Cup winner with the Carthage Eagles, he remains one of the continent’s most successful coaches on a low salary.
13 – Pedro Gonçalves (Angola) – 18,382 euros per month (12,070,000 FCFA)
Pedro Gonçalves is in charge of the Angolan team on a salary of €18,382 per month. A methodical technician, the Portuguese coach is in any case a long way from the Top 10 in 2023.
12 – Tom Saintfiet (Gambia) – €22,982 a month (CFAF 15,080,000)
The former Togo Éperviers coach is enjoying his time with the Gambian national team. Belgian tactician Tom Saintfiet, who has performed well with the small country landlocked by Senegal, earns a not inconsiderable €22,982.
11 – Rigobert Song (Cameroon) – 29,000 euros a month (19,030,000 CFA francs)
The former Indomitable Lions defensive rock earns a monthly salary of 29,000 euros. A legend in Cameroonian and African football, Song is not one of the ten highest-paid coaches heading to the African Cup of Nations.
10 – Kaba Diawara (Guinea-Conakry) – €30,000 a month (FCFA 19,500,000)
Despite recently claiming unpaid wages, Kaba Diawara, the former Guinea international who has been in charge of Guinea-Conakry since 2021, has a monthly salary of €30,000, according to media outlet Zone Foot. In his spare time, the Canal + consultant earns a sizeable salary with the Syli National.
9 – Sebastien Desabre (DRC) – 41,373 euros a month (27,130,000 FCFA)
At 47, the former Uganda and Wydad Casablanca coach will also be eagerly awaited by the Congolese. In a country where the fans are demanding of their national team, Sebastien Desabre will have to work hard to ensure that the Democratic Republic of Congo perform well at the African Cup of Nations. It is for a good result that he has been awarded a salary of €41,373 per month.

Appointed to replace Otto Addo at the helm of the Black Stars, the former Newcastle coach earns the same salary as Aliou Cissé.
6 – José Peseiro (Nigeria) – €46,500 a month (FCFA 30,510,000)
The Super Eagles coach earns around €70,000. However, before extending his contract until the next African Cup of Nations, José Peseiro had to accept a pay cut in order to continue with Victor Osimhen’s country. Criticised in recent weeks for the Super Eagles’ poor results, the Portuguese is not expected to jump ship in January. He will still be pocketing his €46,500 for a few months before finding out what happens next.
5 – Hugo Broos (South Africa) – €50,000 a month (FCFA 32,780,000)
The Belgian, Hugo Henri Broos, with his impressive track record as a former player and coach, will take charge of Bafana Bafana from 2021 on a monthly salary of €50,000. With 35 years’ experience as a coach, Broos has negotiated an attractive salary with Bafana Bafana.
4 – Walid Regragui (Morocco) – €60,000 a month (CFAF 39,330,000)
The first coach to lead an African team to the semi-finals of the World Cup, the Moroccan technician is not yet on the podium of the best paid in Africa. However, for a Walid Regragui at the helm of the Moroccan team (his first experience at the helm of a national team) with a monthly salary of 60,000 euros, it is not negligible. He’ll be going into the CAF Africa Cup of Nations as one of the favourites to win the trophy, perhaps with a view to claiming a pay rise.

In France, many coaches don’t even come close to that sum. It has to be said that he will have a tough task with the Elephants during the competition they are hosting.

According to a source close to the Algerian federation quoted by the El Khabar media and picked up by 90min, the 47-year-old former midfielder is seeing his account grow by millions every month. It’s simply enormous.
