Afcon 2023: Onana still announced on the bench, the probable compositions of Nigeria – Cameroon

After the group stage of Afcon 2023, the round of 16 starts this Saturday, January 27 with two shocks. First, Angola faces Namibia before the derby which will pit Nigeria against Cameroon.

Let’s go for the roller coaster! After a fairly tough group stage, Cameroon, which has firmly validated its qualification for the round of 16, faces Victor Osimhen‘s Nigeria this Saturday. Beyond a simple clash of the round of 16, it is an exacerbated derby, a clash of the titans between the Super Eagles and the Indomitable Lions, two teams which marked the history of the competition in the early 90s.

Nigeria, which beat Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau without really convincing (6 points obtained against these two teams with 2 goals, a penalty and a CSC), faces a Cameroon which shows its power. The Indomitable lions of Rigobert Song, who bowed down against Senegal after their 1-1 draw, suffered against Gambia before validating their ticket for the round of 16 at the last minute thanks to a totally unexpected goal from Christopher Wooh.

And against the Super Eagles, we always expect surprises from Rigobert Song, Cameroon coach. Indeed, André Onana, placed on the bench against Gambia, will experience the same fate against Nigeria. Fabrice Ondoa is expected in the Cameroon cages. Castelleto and N’Koudou affected by malaria should normally occupy their respective positions. The other surprise is the tenure of Vincent Aboubakar who would take Magri’s place in attack. The captain will be surrounded by Karl Toko Ekambi and Georges Kevin Nkoudou in front.
