This week, Manchester City played in the final stages of the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Ahead of last night’s final in Jeddah, the Skyblues received a surprise visit from Al Ahli star Riyad Mahrez, who joined his former team-mates for a team dinner.
It was nice to see Mahrez again. He currently lives in Jeddah, and it was great to spend some time with him yesterday. He’s been an incredible part of the success we’ve enjoyed together over many years.
During his press conference, the Spanish tactician also took the opportunity to praise the 32-year-old winger, who he feels is sorely missed by the City team:
Everyone here at Manchester City feels the absence of Riyad Mahrez. Riyad Mahrez was an influential player with us at City, and together we achieved a lot.
What’s certain is that we share some incredible memories, and everyone in the dressing room appreciates him.
As for his decision to leave, it was appropriate for him in the final years of his professional career, and I wish him every success. Yes, we miss him dearly, but his decision is a personal one.
