On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the expanded list selected by national coach Djamel Belmadi ahead of the 2024 African Cup of Nations (CAN).
On its official website, CAF published the names chosen by Belmadi, part of an expanded list of 50 players for the African tournament.
The list contained a number of surprises, with the return of several key national team players such as Yacine Brahimi, Faouzi Ghoulam and Amir Sayoud.
In addition, the extended list also included the presence of local players, notably Mouloudia d’Alger duo Youcef Belaïli and Djamel Benlamri, USM Alger duo Oussama Benbot and Zinedine Belaïd, and CR Belouizdad goalkeeper Raïs M’Bolhi.
However, on this complete list of the national team, selected by Djamel Belmadi in anticipation of the CAN 2024, CAF has dropped a huge hint about the 27 players called up for the finals.
Indeed, the first 27 names on the list are the players officially called up for the CAN, except for one last-minute change which must be made before January 3.
The list includes 4 goalkeepers, with the return of M’bolhi and the recall of Youcef Belaili, who will wear number 8.
It is essential to remember that this list is provisional and will be rapidly reduced to 27 names.
The list is due to be finalized in the next few days. National coach Djamel Belmadi will call up the selected players for the start of the pre-competitive training camp at the Sidi Moussa National Technical Center.
The team will then fly to the Togolese capital, Lomé, for two friendly matches against Togo and Burundi.
