Joan Laporta has officially resigned from his position as president of FC Barcelona, along with several members of his board. While this decision may come as a surprise, it strictly adheres to the statutes of the Catalan club, just weeks before the presidential elections set for Sunday, March 15.
According to article 42.f of FC Barcelona’s statutes, the sitting president must step down if he wishes to run for re-election. It was in this context that Joan Laporta submitted his resignation during the regular board meeting on Monday, where the official call for candidates for the elections was also announced.

In a statement, the club clarified that several current officials followed the outgoing president to participate in the electoral process. This includes the vice president in charge of institutional affairs, Elena Fort, the vice president of the social sector, Antonio Escudero, as well as board members Ferran Olivé, Josep Maria Albert, Javier Barbany, Miquel Camps, Aureli Mas, Javier Puig, and Joan Soler y Ferré.
Despite these departures, the club’s institutional continuity is ensured. A provisional board has been established to manage ongoing affairs until the end of the term, set for June 30, 2026. This transitional team is led by Rafael Yuste, appointed as interim president, assisted by Josep Cubells as vice president and secretary, and Alfons Castro as treasurer. Board members Josep Ignasi Macià, Àngel Riudalbas, Joan Solé i Sust, and Sisco Pujol complete this new setup.
Once these changes were confirmed, the provisional board continued its work according to the agenda. For his part, Joan Laporta is now focused on the election campaign, aiming to win over the socios and secure a new mandate at the helm of FC Barcelona.
