Young Kenzo Kies, a player for En Avant Guingamp, is currently in a state of brain death after a drowning accident near Lyon, in a prohibited swimming area. According to reports from the regional newspaper Le Progrès, the incident occurred in Caluire-et-Cuire, not far from Villeurbanne, around 6:30 PM. This area is known to be particularly dangerous due to its layout and the risks associated with unauthorized swimming.
Originally from Lyon, the 21-year-old had not yet played a professional match. He began his journey at FC Lyon before joining the Olympique Lyonnais academy at a young age in 2011, where he stayed until 2017. He then continued his training at AS Saint-Priest before moving to AS Saint-Étienne from 2018 to 2025. During this time, he played 30 matches in the U19 National and 32 matches in National 3, showing steady progress through the youth and reserve categories.

After his time at Saint-Étienne, Kenzo Kies joined the reserve team of Guingamp, competing in National 3.
Wearing the colors of the Breton club, he participated in four matches between August and October before being sidelined by an injury. With his contract expiring, he decided not to continue with the Costarmorican club at the end of the season. The player was in a transitional phase of his career, aiming to bounce back with a new sporting project.
In the columns of Ouest-France, Guingamp’s reserve coach, Jean-Baptiste Le Bescond, spoke about a particularly difficult context for the club and its close ones, describing it as a “real shock.” He also mentioned that psychological support measures would be put in place when training resumes on July 6. The editorial team at So Foot sends its thoughts and wishes much strength to his family, loved ones, and the Guingamp club.
