Carlo Ancelotti has finally extended his contract with Real Madrid, having been rumoured to be heading to Brazil following the departure of Tite. The Transalpine coach, who appeared before the media on Tuesday, made a number of revelations about his discussions with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
Carlo Ancelotti is a successful coach. The Transalpine technician has won everywhere he has worked, with a few exceptions. Since his return to Real Madrid, the veteran Italian has turned the Madrid team around and revived nuggets such as Vinicius Jr, who have gone on to explode in the eyes of the world. With this team, he has not only won La Liga, but also the Champions League with a great Karim Benzema.
But with just a few months to go before the end of his contract with Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti made contact with the Brazilian national team, fresh from their elimination from the Qatar 2022 World Cup following the departure of Tite as coach. Ancelotti was obviously attracted by the project, but he is expected to complete his contract with Real Madrid.
Brazil then installed an interim coach before Carlo Ancelotti arrived. Unfortunately, things did not turn out as either party would have wished. Brazilian legends were up in arms over the likely arrival of Carlo Ancelotti. The Brazilian Football Confederation then experienced a crisis that ended up costing the head of the president, who was in talks with Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti tells the whole truth about Brazil
Carlo Ancelotti did not hesitate to extend his contract with Real Madrid until 2026, much to the dismay of Brazilian fans.
Appearing at a press conference on Tuesday, the Real Madrid coach agreed to talk about Brazil for the first time, and confirmed that the discussions had indeed taken place. Carlo Ancelotti even spoke of the existence of a contract, but after the departure of the President of the CBF, nothing else moved and he preferred to extend his contract with Real Madrid.
“Rumours from Brazil – The reality is that everyone knows. Real Madrid knows it too. I’ve been in contact with the former President of the Brazilian FA, Ednaldo Rodrigues. I’d like to thank him, because he showed me a lot of affection and interest in coaching Brazil. He made me feel very proud and honoured, but all that was done while I was waiting for my situation with Real Madrid to be resolved. In recent months, Ednaldo Rodrigues stepped down as President of the Brazilian Confederation. I had the contract, obviously, but in the end things worked out the way I wanted, which is to say that I stayed here,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.
Ancelotti says he will retire after Real Madrid
Against all expectations, Real Madrid have made Carlo Ancelotti’s extension until 2026 official. While some fans would like to see a certain Xabi Alonso on the Madrid bench, it will still be Don Carlo at the helm.
On Tuesday, Ancelotti made no secret of his satisfaction at the extension, confirming what everyone is already thinking: that he will retire 100% from Real Madrid.
“This is my last bench, I can confirm that. I don’t know when it will end. I think 2026 could be a partial thing, I could still be here after 2026, it depends on how successful we are. Maybe 2026 will be my last year as a coach, maybe not. I hope to be a coach in 2027 and 2028. I love Madrid and I want to stay here,” said Carlo Ancelotti.
“For me, the fact that the club wants to continue my work is valuable. I’ve always said that I wasn’t in a hurry to renew my contract. My contract ended on 30 June, so I was in no hurry. The club chose to do it now because they’re probably happy with the work we’re doing, which makes me very happy. I don’t know if it’s a success, but success here is winning matches and that’s what we’re going to try to do after this renewal,” added Carlo Ancelotti.
