Ancelotti on his renewal with Real Madrid : “It’s my last bench”

The Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, confessed he had contacts with Brazil about becoming coach.

Carlo Ancelotti expressed his happiness at the renewal of his contract for two more years with Real Madrid, until 20 June 2026, expressing his gratitude to the Brazilian Confederation for their interest and recalling a phrase from which he had previously retracted, when he stated that it would be his “last bench”.

“I’m very happy with the renewal, it was quite simple. We agreed it between the two of us without any problems or doubts. It was a quick agreement and I’m very happy to continue for another two years as Real Madrid coach,” he told a press conference.

“It’s my last bench, I don’t know if it will be that year but I confirm that it’s my last bench. When it ends I don’t know, it could be 2026 or it could be after that. It will depend on how successful we can be. I want to be coach until that year and hopefully until 2028 because I like Madrid and I want to stay here,” he added.

Ancelotti had words for the Brazilian Football Confederation and, in particular, for Ednaldo Rodrigues, who showed his interest in the Italian coach when he was president.

“Everyone knows, it’s the reality, Real Madrid knows that I have had contact with the president of the Brazilian Federation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, whom I thank for his affection and interest in coaching the Brazilian national team,” he explained.

“He made me feel proud and honoured, but everything was pending the situation with Real Madrid. It was clear to everyone. In the last few months he has ceased to be president but I had contact with him and I want to thank him for his affection. In the end it was the way I wanted it to be, to stay here,” he confessed.

Ancelotti joked about the possibility of being Brazil coach from 2026

“I can contemplate it, thinking about being Brazil coach is a great illusion but I don’t know if they will want me in 2026. I don’t know if they are happy with my decision.”

Carletto was grateful to Real Madrid for their confidence in his work and praised president Florentino Pérez, who decided not to wait until the end of the season to evaluate the titles won and presented his coach with a renewal before the end of 2023.

“For me, the fact that the club wants to continue with my work is valuable. The intra-history is not so important because I have always said that I was not in a hurry to renew. The contract was up on 30 June and the club has chosen to do it now because they are probably happy with the work we are doing together and they want to continue. It makes me very happy. I don’t know if it’s a success because the success here is to win every game,” he said.

“The president has not changed, he always maintains his motivation and his love for the team, he is born and has been growing since he was a child. Florentino Pérez’s career at Real Madrid is fantastic and continues to be fantastic. He has very clear ideas about the future. That’s why the club is in very good hands”, he said.
