Kylian Mbappé is reportedly facing major problems, “a la Pogba”, according to former footballer Jérôme Rothen, who shared his views on the prolific French striker’s situation.

Kylian Mbappé may have been tense in recent weeks, but he looked happy during Wednesday’s match against FC Metz. His younger brother Ethan’s injury-time introduction lit up the face of Ligue 1’s top scorer, who now has 18 league goals to his name, including a brace against Les Messins.

The scene is in stark contrast to the unease he displayed after the Dortmund match and the Lille game. The former Monaco player was in a gloomy frame of mind following his team’s mixed results, but not only that.

According to information leaked by Jérôme Rothen, it would appear that the player is also going through serious personal problems, like those of Paul Pogba. Rothen does not go into detail, mentioning issues such as racketeering, voodoo and unspecified doping.

“Today, he doesn’t talk, he doesn’t express himself. This also poses a problem because he may have communication difficulties. He may also have private problems, and I know what I’m talking about. But we won’t go into those details, because like everyone else, he has problems in his private life, which isn’t always easy. If I talk about Mbappé? I’m talking about him, yes yes”, he declared on his programme, referring to problems “à la Pogba”.

Like Jérôme Rothen, Daniel Riolo also addressed the situation of Kylian Mbappé, making an impassioned plea to the player on RMC’s After Foot programme. The journalist urged the Paris Saint-Germain star to break his silence in order to resolve questions about his future, despite his less than stellar performances in recent weeks.

Kylian Mbappe’s silence also intrigues Daniel Riolo

“In my eyes, it’s a downfall. Not a footballing downfall, because he continued to score goals, but he had an unspectacular second half of the season with PSG. He’s had a summer that’s been painfully managed, even if I’ve always said that the fault was certainly more with the club than with him. He hasn’t been totally perfect either,” Daniel Riolo said of the French striker.

“I think it was more the club that messed up than he did, but he never spoke up. He hasn’t spoken for a year. Even in the French national team, he hasn’t spoken at the last few meetings, even though he’s captain, and he’s skipped the press conferences. With PSG, he doesn’t talk, with Les Bleus, he’s stopped talking. He’s afraid people will ask him questions. Before, he was a boy who wasn’t afraid of anything,” added Riolo.

Daniel Riolo also commented on Kylian Mbappé’s communication, saying: “I hear it’s very, very complicated to communicate when you’re a footballer at this level, and I hope everyone understands how ironic I am. It’s completely beyond me, it’s like certain politicians who are out of touch with reality and who are surrounded not by communicators but by advisers, and yet they make blunders (…) Kylian Mbappé is certainly less surrounded than a politician, and even then sometimes I doubt it, but he doesn’t exist any more”.

While he may be silent off the pitch, Kylian Mbappé answers the call. Top scorer in Ligue 1, he continues to shine at the highest level.
