Achraf Hakimi showed great calmness on the eve of the clash between Morocco and Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
At the pre-match press conference this Friday, the captain of the Atlas Lions praised the quality of the opponent while expressing his team’s ambitions, without any complexes.

“In Africa, we are called the Brazilians of Africa”
The 2025 African Ballon d’Or winner acknowledged the high level of the Brazilian squad while embracing the flattering label often given to the Moroccan team.
“We know the quality of Brazil. But we also have quality. In Africa, we are called the Brazilians of Africa. We are ready to do something great with the support of Moroccans. We will perform well and start strong tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, coach Mohamed Ouahbi also emphasized the respect owed to the opponent while maintaining confidence in his group.
“It’s Brazil, with a great coach, but that doesn’t take away from our ambition”
The coach delivered a measured speech, mentioning Carlo Ancelotti with admiration and humor, while keeping the sporting stakes in mind.
“Carlo Ancelotti is a great coach. I’ve read all his books. Maybe I’ll have an advantage because I know all his secrets (laughs). It’s Brazil. They deserve respect. Many say it’s not the Brazil of the past. But it’s still Brazil. Honestly, when you see the quality of the players, the passion, and their desire to win this World Cup. It’s a prestigious match. It’s a great honor to play the first World Cup match against Brazil. But that doesn’t take away from our ambition.”
